The Jazz and Freedom Festival presents the Jazz and Freedom Octet on Sunday, January 17th, at 8:45 PM until 9:30 pm at Union Arts located at 411 New York Avenue NE.
The Jazz and Freedom Octet consists of eight musicians dedicated to the movement of social justice. They will perform freedom songs and originals, including at least one world premiere. This year’s octet features Donvonte McCoy on Trumpet, Grant Langford on Soprano sax, Herb Scott on alto sax, Elijah Easton on tenor sax, Shannon Gunn on trombone, Samuel Prather on piano, Eliot Seppa on bass, and Savannah Harris on drums.
The Jazz and Freedom Octet from 2015 comprised of Jessica Boykin-Settles on vocals, Grant Langford on tenor sax, Elijah Easton on Tenor Sax, Donvonte McCoy on trumpet, Shannon Gunn on trombone, Sam Prather on piano, Karine Chapdelaine-Walker on bass, Savannah G. Harris on drum set, and Tony Martucci on congas.
